I just wanted to share the picture. I love this photo, not just because of the look on the dog's face. My father-in-law is the one holding the dog. I find this whole scene completely endearing. The half smile on Jeff's face, the wedding ring, the pen poking out of the pocket of the work shirt, the way he's holding the dog. I put it on my desktop because the dog looked so...resigned...but it's caught me by surprise in other ways since then.

What's on your desktop?

I've got Eta Carinae on my desktop.
Favorite recent Eta Carinae quote:
"Note that the lobes appear to be tilted away from us by about 40 degrees or so. That’s a good thing. When stars like Eta Carinae explode, they tend to shoot of beams of energy and matter that, at its distance of 7500 light years, could kill every living thing on Earth. But since it’s pointed away from us, all we’ll get is a spectacular light show. If you’re keeping score at home, gamma-ray burst aimed at you = bad, pretty supernova with no accompanying high energy radiation = good."
I think the dog looks bored in a Talulah Bankhead sort of way--would say "Dahling, pass me another mahtini."
Poor little Chipper! It was the day we took him from his brothers and sisters. But believe me! He didn't look forlorn for long!! He's quite a handful these days.
Your remarks about Jeff are so true. I was touched by your observations. Thank you.
